Biography

  • born 1954 in Bologna, Italy
  • studied media science at the University of Bologna (1973 - 1977)
  • Master's thesis "Das filmische Werk von C. Th. Dreyer" (1977)
  • member of the photography committee at the Institute for Cultural Events in Bologna (1980-1984) and organizer of photo-cultural events: Joan Fontcuberta und Sam Haskins in Bologna, exchange between the Berlin Academy for the Arts (HdK) and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna, culminating in an exhibition in the Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Bologna 
  • member of the photographic group MPV (1981-1982)
  •  in Berlin since 1981
  • photography instructor at the Berlin Academy for the Arts (HdK),  (1982-1989)
  • postgraduate studies in Semiotics at the TU Berlin (1993-1996)
  • since 1994 participation in the interdisciplinary research project "Gesture Recognition Using Sensor Gloves" 
  • since1998 member of the project group "Berlin Lexicon of Everyday Gestures"
  • since 2001 participation in the research projects KOSIS (Kooperation und Sicherheit in komplexen soziotechnischen Systemen) and NITE (Natural Interactivity Tools Engineering).

  • social science research on the emblem status of everyday gestures and their differing reception in various population categories through a representative survey of the Berlin population
