  • born 1942 in Prague
  • studied philosophy, comparative literature, linguistics and communication theory at the Universities of Bonn, Munich, and Berlin
  • 1967 state diploma in German studies and philosophy
  • 1972:  Dphil in linguistics "Theorie des Kommentierens: Eine Grundlagenstudie zur Semantik und Pragmatik"
  • 1973: post doctoral lecturing qualification in linguistics, general literature and philosophy of language
  • 1974: associate professor, 1975 -1980 professor and director for German linguistics and general linguistics at the TU Berlin
  • 1974: foundation of the Research Center for Semiotics at the TU Berlin
